Dirty, not kept up well, and not a good option

My family and I stay here around the holidays every year to visit family nearby. This will be the last year I stay here. The rooms are very dirty/not functional - wallpaper coming off the walls, stains on walls and carpet, bathroom not clean and sink was cracked, and some lights not working at all. Additionally, the hotel gym (while I understand it is a hotel gym), there were 5 pieces of cardio equipment, each day 2 (different) pieces weren't working at a time. There were 4-6 people in the gym each day I went, each waiting for equipment - only dumbbells were 25lbs and over (typically you'd see lower weights available), and no mats or anything to do anything on the floor. Just poor service, a little upkeep would go a long way for everything in the hotel - room & gym included. Overall, I understand that this is a low-cost hotel option, but not worth any money in my opinion. You can get a decent hotel option that has been kept clean & functional for this price elsewhere.

I could not find anything to dislike about this hotel. I needed a decently priced hotel I could commute into NYC from for work. The Doubletree fit the bill perfectly. Great location close to major highways. From the moment I checked in, I found the staff to be friendly and welcoming (and you definitely can’t miss when you give your guests warm cookies and bottled water upon check in). But mostly importantly, my room was clean, clean, clean. Spotless. In addition, I was not expecting daily housekeeping, as many hotels have eliminated it, but not this one. Every evening when I returned, my room had been all tidied perfectly. I also liked the fact that I had a small fridge, microwave and coffee maker in my room. I like being able to have coffee first thing in the morning without having to go out. It was pretty decent, and the liquid Coffee mate vs the powdered stuff you usually find, was a bonus. Didn’t try the restaurant on premises (they also have room service - another plus), but I suspect it was very good. This will be my new go to hotel when I need to travel into NYC.

After checking in & getting to our room, it smelled of smoke. We had to air it out ourselves. Plus, it was not made clear that breakfast was not complimentary and was charged a fee. They also gave us the wrong welcome bag for one of the 3 weddings happening that day.

Stayed at this property for one weekday night. Check-in was quick and easy. Once in the room, it was found to be comfortable and clean. The bathroom was also clean and supplied with nice bath products. The bedding was very comfortable and I slept well, which is rare on my first night of any trip. I had breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant the following morning. This is a buffet style breakfast which costs about $18.00, tip is included. The breakfast was good. For those folks who have commented on the layout of the hotel, this property appears to have had an addition / extension added to the original hotel. At every corner in the hallways is signage directing folks to their destination (room numbers, elevators, lobby, etc). I never experienced any feeling of not knowing where I was or where I was heading.

Everyone working at the hotel was thoughtful and friendly. My room and the whole hotel was very clean and well-maintained. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast buffet was good. I just wish I could have stayed another night!
